Hive Collapse Disorder
We are looking at an unprecedented death of bees. It is estimated that 1/3 of this nation’s bees are gone. Add in the fact that 1/3 of our food supply is touched by a bee, and we have a real crisis in the making. Pesticides (Monsanto), mono-agriculture and cellphones – electronic smog – are all thought to be causes but no one knows for sure yet. Vermont does not experience hive collapse yet.
I am a photographer and, just this summer, a beekeeper. This is a first series of photos exploring dead bees.
